Our Schools

Compensatory Programs

The Compensatory Programs Department is dedicated to providing equitable access to quality education for all students. Through federal and state initiatives, we work to remove barriers, close opportunity gaps, and ensure every child has the support they need to achieve academic success.

We partner closely with schools, families, and community organizations to strengthen instructional programs, increase family engagement, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

Programs We Manage

Title I, Part A – Academic Support for Disadvantaged Students

Title I provides supplemental funding to schools serving higher percentages of students from low-income families. These funds help schools:

  • Strengthen teaching and learning through evidence-based instructional strategies
  • Increase academic achievement in reading and mathematics
  • Offer additional interventions and tutoring support
  • Provide professional development for teachers and staff
  • Promote meaningful parent and family engagement

Title I Family Engagement

Family engagement is at the heart of student success. The department offers opportunities for families to build leadership skills, strengthen communication with schools, and participate in decision-making processes. Through workshops, family events, and parent leadership activities, we work to:

  • Equip parents with tools to support learning at home
  • Foster strong partnerships between families and educators
  • Create inclusive environments that value every family’s voice

Title IV, Part B – 21st Century Community Learning Centers

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program provides before-school, afterschool, and summer learning opportunities for students and families. These programs:

  • Extend learning beyond the school day
  • Offer academic enrichment, tutoring, and STEAM activities
  • Provide safe, supportive environments for students
  • Engage families through literacy and educational workshops

Equitable Services for Private Schools

In collaboration with participating private schools, the department ensures that eligible private school students, teachers, and families receive equitable access to federally funded services. This includes:

  • Academic support for eligible students
  • Professional learning opportunities for teachers
  • Family engagement initiatives aligned to federal program goals

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program

The McKinney-Vento Program provides stability, advocacy, and resources for children and youth experiencing homelessness. The program ensures students have equal access to educational opportunities by:

  • Assisting with enrollment and transportation to the school of origin
  • Connecting families to community and district resources
  • Promoting school stability and continuity in learning
  • Supporting academic and social-emotional needs

Title I, Section 1003(b) – School Improvement

The Title I, Section 1003(b) program provides additional federal funding and technical assistance to schools identified for improvement under the state’s accountability system. The goal is to accelerate student achievement and build sustainable systems for long-term success.

Funds are used to:

  • Support the implementation of comprehensive school improvement (CSI) and targeted support and improvement (TSI) plans
  • Address root causes of low performance through evidence-based strategies
  • Strengthen leadership capacity, instructional practices, and school culture
  • Monitor progress through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement cycles

The department collaborates with school leaders, regional education service agencies, and state officials to ensure improvement plans align with district priorities and yield measurable results.
