Did you know? SCCPSS Asynchronous Learning Explained
Updated

Asynchronous learning is a flexible and student-centered approach to education that allows students to access course materials, complete assignments, and participate in discussions on their own time, rather than being tied to a physical classroom at a specific time.

The district has a new Asynchronous Remote Learning option which allows students to participate remotely up to 5 days per academic year.

Q. How do students request to participate in Asynchronous Remote Learning?

A. Parents/guardians should submit a request through the Parent Access portal. Directions to submit the request can be found on the district’s website.

Q. What counts as remote participation?

A. Students must login and complete learning activities using approved Learning Management platforms (i.e. Brightspace, Amira, IReady) on the day of the absence between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. When the student returns to school, they must submit their access log to the teacher for their attendance to be updated.

Q. What happens if a student does not submit the access log?

A. The student will be considered absent for the day.

Q. Can a student request more than 5 Asynchronous Remote Learning days?

A. No. Students are only allowed to request and use 5 Asynchronous Remote Learning days per year.

Q. Can my student complete a paper packet and submit it as proof of attendance for an Asynchronous Remote Learning day?

A. No. Students must login to the Learning Management platform and provide proof of their login to utilize the Asynchronous Remote Learning option.

Q. Can I request an Asynchronous Remote Learning day retroactively (i.e. the day after my absence)?

A. No. All Asynchronous Remote Learning requests must be received prior to the start of the school day being requested.

No Credit (NC) Reminder: Students with 10 or more unexcused (unverified) absences may request an attendance waiver. If the waiver is not approved, the student will not receive credit for the course or be promoted to the next grade level.
